Love Food Hate Waste – a focus on fruit & veg
This Spring the Love Food Hate Waste campaign takes a closer look at fruit and vegetables.
In the UK, we waste 6.7 million tonnes of food every year - enough to fill Wembley stadium eight times over – it's an alarming waste of resources, money and a major contributor to climate change. Sadly, fruit and vegetables are the single biggest component of the foods we throw away, accounting for 40% of all the food thrown out.
April 3rd sees the launch of a public relations campaign that highlights the extent of just how much fruit and vegetables are wasted and offers practical advice and recipes which help us make the most of the fruit and vegetables we buy. The campaign will bust those myths that 'its Ok to throw this food away because it breaks down naturally' and will encourage some simple planning techniques like checking the fridge and store cupboard before you go shopping for more.
What's next? Well at a national level, the "sad isn't it" advertising campaign continues in selected food and lifestyle papers and magazines, and for our campaign partners a new press release template will be added to the www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/partners site.
Can we help? Local authorities who want to develop a Love Food Hate Waste campaign should contact Emma (emma.marsh@wrap.org.uk) or Lucy (Lucy.cross@wrap.org.uk). Should you require assistance in delivering the campaign, please talk to your local WRAP Home Composting Advisor - they are trained on "Love Food Hate Waste" and would be delighted to assist your promotion.
