New look for website

Need more information on home composting? Whether it's for you or your residents, take a look at the newly re-designed home composting pages on Recycle Now to find out all you need to know.

Suitable for novices or experienced gardeners, the website has clear step by step instructions showing what can be composted and how simple it is to make your garden more beautiful and productive by using your compost.

Check out the Buy a bin section. By simply entering your postcode you can see the full range of bins and digesters in your area and how much they cost. Ordering is simple too!

For the future we are looking to develop a case study section to show people using compost bins, wormeries and food digesters. If you are willing to be a case study or know of anyone, please do let us know.

We hope you find the new website easy to use and navigate. As always, your feedback on the site will be welcome.

Thank you

Gate Fees Report 2008

WRAP has recently published the 2008 Gate Fees Report which provides the data and analysis you need to aid your decision making.

Until now, the lack of information available on the relative costs of different waste treatment and disposal options has made it hard to compare options and make the most economically and environmentally efficient choices.

The report shows a wide variation in gate fees, both across and within regions. Despite this, gate fees for different treatments are ranked broadly in line with expectations. For example, gate fees at material recovery facilities (MRFs) and for landfill are substantially lower than those for incineration; while open-air windrow (OAW) gate fees are lower than those for in-vessel composting (IVC) or mechanical biological treatment (MBT) facilities.

Looking forward, the study identifies the landfill tax escalator and increasing competition for some treatment options as key opposing drivers of gate fees.

The report will be repeated annually to ensure that the market continues to have access to up-to-date and relevant data.
